How a Squid Jig Works

Jigs are designed to look like prawns in the water. They come in a wide range of colours and you will find many people who fish for squid will have different opinions on the best colour to choose.

Instead of standard barbed or non-barbed hooks, jigs have a two rows of small crown hooks. These hooks are designed to get caught in the tentacles of the attacking squid and allowing the anglers to land it.

In terms of materials, there is a range of choices from plastic to cloth finishes that are designed to mimic fish scales. Again, different people will have different preferences but give us a call if you want to have a chat about what we think works well for us.

Squidding

Due to warmer summers, we are seeing more and more squid in UK waters. This means a side of fishing that essentially never existed in the UK is now a really big thing. It can be great fun and certainly something a little different to try!
