A lure reel takes a real beating — hundreds of casts a session and a soaking in salt water every time you go out — so it pays to buy something built for it. We stock spinning reels across the range from solid, sensibly priced workhorses through to the lighter, sealed reels that serious lure anglers end up buying. Come in and have a feel of a few on a rod, it tells you far more than a spec sheet.

Looking After Your Reel

For bass work most people are best served by a 2500 to 4000 size, balanced to the rod so the whole outfit doesn’t feel tip-heavy after a couple of hours. Lrf and dropshot sit smaller, usually 1000 to 2500. Whatever you go for, give it a rinse with fresh water after every session and a light oil now and then — salt is what kills reels, not fish. If yours is starting to feel gritty, bring it in and we’ll take a look before it gets any worse.
