The right weight is what makes a soft lure swim properly, so it’s worth carrying a spread of them rather than trying to make one size do everything. We stock jig heads, weedless weights, cheburashkas, dropshot weights and bullet leads in the sizes that work on the south coast, and in a range of hook sizes to suit whatever plastics you’re fishing.

Getting The Weight Right

As a rough guide, go with the lightest weight that still lets you keep in touch with the lure. Too heavy and you’re dragging along the bottom collecting weed, too light and you’ve no idea what your lure is doing, particularly when there’s a bit of tide running. Most of our bass fishing gets done somewhere between 5g and 20g depending on depth and flow, and lrf drops right down to a couple of grams. A cheburashka setup is well worth a look if you fish rough ground, since you can change the weight in seconds without re-rigging the whole thing.
