Picking The Right Rod

Pick the rod for the fishing rather than the other way round. A 12 or 13ft float rod gives you line control and a forgiving action for light hooklengths, which is exactly what you want catching roach and skimmers. A feeder rod with a set of quivertips lets you match the tip to the conditions — a fine tip for delicate bites on a still day, a heavier one for holding a feeder in flow. If you mostly fish commercials for carp, something shorter and stronger makes life easier. Tell us where you fish and we’ll narrow it down.
