Matching The Reel To The Fishing

For float fishing, a smaller reel with a smooth drag and a decent line lay is the thing — you’re picking up line quickly and playing fish on light hooklengths, so the clutch is doing real work. Feeder fishing suits a slightly larger reel with more cranking power for retrieving a loaded feeder all day. A spare spool loaded with a different line is one of the most useful cheap upgrades going, letting you switch approach without re-spooling. Keep them clean and out of the bottom of the bag with the leads.
