Choosing Line For The Job

For general float and feeder work on local waters, 4 to 6lb mainline with a lighter hooklength covers most of what you’ll do, stepping up for carp or snaggy swims. Fluorocarbon hooklengths sink well and are less visible, which earns extra bites on clear, hard-fished venues. Braid is useful for feeder fishing at range where you want to feel everything and set a hook a long way out, but it needs a shock leader and a soft rod tip to avoid hook pulls. Replace your mainline more often than you think — sunlight and wear cost people good fish every season.
