Keeping Bait In Good Condition

Maggots need air, so a lid with ventilation is the one to have, and a riddle lid makes it easy to keep them clean in fresh maize. In summer keep your bait out of direct sun and in a cool bag if you’re fishing all day, because a hot box of maggots turns into casters faster than you’d like — and worms cook. Two or three smaller boxes generally beat one big one, since it lets you keep hookbait separate from feed and stops you tipping the lot in by accident.
