Groundbait additives, liquid flavours, powders, pellet oils and sweeteners. Small amounts can make a real difference to how a swim responds, particularly when you’re fishing for shy bites or trying to hold fish in one spot for a few hours.

Using Additives Properly

Think about what you’re trying to do. Sweet, milky flavours have always done well for roach and skimmers, fishmeal and pellet oils pull carp and tench, and spicy additives come into their own in coloured water. In winter, go lighter on everything — cold water means fish want less food and softer scents, and over-flavouring a groundbait mix is the quickest way to kill a swim. Mix your groundbait at home if you can and let it stand, so it’s right when you get to the bank rather than sloppy at the first cast.
