Braid scissors, knot pullers, boilie drills, needles, forceps, hook sharpening kits and stringer tools. Small things, but they’re what turn rig tying from an annoyance into something you might actually enjoy doing.

The Rig Bench Essentials

A sharp pair of braid scissors is the first thing to buy — ordinary scissors crush coated hooklinks instead of cutting them and leave you with untidy knots. A knot puller saves your fingers when you’re pulling down knotless knots tight, particularly in the cold. Hook sharpening has become standard practice for a lot of anglers, and if you’re going to do it, do it properly with a decent file and a stone and keep the points protected afterwards. Come and ask if you want a hand getting started with it.
