Test Curve And Length

Test curve is the number people fixate on, but it’s really about matching the rod to the water. Around 2.75lb suits most general carp fishing and is a pleasure to play fish on, 3lb and above makes sense if you’re regularly casting big leads a long way or fishing near snags, and a shorter, lighter rod is far more fun for stalking and margin work. Length helps with distance and with keeping line clear of obstacles, though a 13ft rod is a handful on a tight, tree-lined swim. Tell us where you fish and we’ll get you on the right one.
