Polarised sunglasses for a day afloat, where the glare off the water is twice what it is on the beach. Comfortable, well-fitting frames and a retainer cord, because sunglasses that go over the side aren’t coming back.

Glare, Eyes And Retainer Cords

A full day on the water in bright conditions is genuinely tiring on the eyes, and a good polarised lens takes most of that away. They also help you see what’s going on around the boat — birds working, bait fish showing, colour changes in the water — which is often what tells the skipper where to move next. Get a retainer cord and wear it, and rinse the salt off the lenses with fresh water rather than wiping it in.
