Feathering Afloat

Take a spread of sizes. Small feathers and sabikis will fill a bucket with mackerel and joeys for bait, while bigger muppets and hokkais tipped with a strip of squid or mackerel are a well-proven way to take pollack and cod over rough ground. Three or four hooks is plenty on a boat — six fish thrashing about on a string is asking for trouble on a crowded deck. Take only what you need for the table and for bait, and get the rest back quickly.
